5 must-see walks

Fancy a walk? Fancy discovering Lourdes in a different way, by going for a hike?
Put on your walking shoes, tie your laces and discover our selection of walks and hikes around Lourdes…

1. A walk around Lake Lourdes

With its picture-postcard setting, Lake Lourdes – home to a wide range of activities – offers an easy walk just a few kilometres from the town centre. Refreshing and off the beaten track, this walk is full of discoveries as you make your way through the pine forest, away from the hustle and bustle of the lake’s developed area.

Halfway along the route, you’ll come across a very special wetland: the peat bog, a ‘NATURA 2000’ designated site home to an exceptional variety of flora and fauna.

2. The Pic du Jer

For a higher vantage point, head to the Pic du Jer trail for a walk overlooking the town of Lourdes and the surrounding towns of the Hautes-Pyrénées. After an hour and a half’s walk, you’ll reach the summit of the Pic du Jer, where a refreshment area awaits you in season. The walk can continue all the way to the summit by following the botanical trail, which is dotted with information boards describing the trees and shrubs around you.
At the summit, enjoy the 360° panoramic view of the town and the Pyrenees mountain range.

3. Baloum’s Tour

Out with the family and fancy a bit of a stroll?
The 30-minute Baloum circular walk is the perfect spot for a stroll with the children. The pleasant, shaded path is ideal on hot days and leads you to a viewpoint where you can enjoy an unusual view of the town and its castle. You can round off your walk on the banks of Lake Lourdes and soak up the atmosphere.

4. The Green Way

From Tarbes to Lourdes, this route takes you through the alluvial plain of the Echez – a tributary of the Adour – and the foothills of the Pyrenees, whilst showcasing the typical villages of the Hautes-Pyrénées: Adé, Juillan, Lanne, Louey … A walk to get to know the locals.

Connect the starting points By public transport

You can easily reach the starting points of our walks using Lourdes’ city buses. In just a few minutes, you’ll be taken straight to your chosen route. Walking enthusiasts can also set off directly from the town centre to reach certain routes on foot. It’s a lovely way to continue exploring the destination at your own pace and without any hassle.
