Our top 3 spots for relaxing by the water’s edge

Fancy treating yourself to a refreshing break in the heart of nature? Discover three unmissable spots where you can relax by the water’s edge and make the most of the fine weather. Whether with family, friends or on your own, take a moment to settle down for a break, a picnic or simply to savour a relaxing moment in the peaceful surroundings of Lourdes.

Take a break At Lake Lourdes

Lourdes Lake is the perfect spot for a relaxing break with your feet in the water. This glacial lake, with its picture-postcard scenery, is a must-visit for a refreshing break or a moment of well-being. Here, time stands still and everyone can find a moment of relaxation. It’s a place where people come both to get some exercise and to unwind. As you’ll have realised, a visit to Lake Lourdes is a must!

On the riverbanks of the Gave de Pau

The Gave de Pau, fed by the waters of the great waterfall in the Cirque de Gavarnie, flows through the valley before reaching Lourdes and continuing on towards Pau. Near the town, its wide pebble banks are the perfect spot to take a break in the sunshine, listen to the sound of the water or enjoy a picnic in a peaceful natural setting . Swimming is, however, prohibited here.

Our tip: hop on your bike and follow the Gaves cycle route. Once you reach the iron bridge, head down to the riverbanks to enjoy a relaxing moment right by the river. Do remain vigilant, however, as the water level can change rapidly due to the operation of hydroelectric power stations and mountain storms.

At the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Lourdes

The Gave de Pau flows through the sanctuary grounds. The tranquillity here is perfect for relaxation and meditation. What could be better than sitting opposite the Grotto for a moment’s rest or some quiet reflection? A little further down, you can settle down on the riverbank and let yourself be lulled by the flow of the Gave.
