Lourdes Lake: breathe in nature to your heart’s content

The path that circles the lake stretches for around 6 kilometres, winding between the lakeshores and offering views of the Pyrenees. Whether on foot, by bike or while running, the route allows you to change pace and enjoy the scenery as the seasons change. On the water, the lake can also be explored by stand-up paddleboard or canoe.

Anglers, meanwhile, will find a Category 2 fishing lake here, home to carp, pike, zander, perch and black bass, amongst others.

To the west of the lake lies a much more secluded habitat: the Lac de Lourdes peat bog, which has been designated a Natura 2000 site since 2006. This fragile ecosystem is home to remarkable flora and fauna, including the sedge fritillary, one of Europe’s most endangered butterflies, and the sundew, a small carnivorous plant that is rare in France. Behind the lake’s peaceful façade lies a precious natural heritage that deserves our full attention.

The lake is ideal for anything from a few hours’ relaxation to a full day out. A morning stroll, lunch by the water’s edge, a spot of stand-up paddleboarding or a spot of fishing can easily make up the day’s programme. There’s also a playground for families. And as the day draws to a close, the lakeshore offers a beautiful vantage point from which to watch the light change over the lake and the surrounding hills. It’s a simple way to enjoy the natural beauty of Lourdes, just three kilometres from the town centre.
