Introduction to the label Destination of Excellence

The‘Destination d’excellence’label was introduced in May 2024 to replace the‘Qualité Tourisme’mark and improve the overall quality of tourism services in France, whilst placing particular emphasis on environmental responsibility and providing information for people with disabilities. This new label applies to the accommodation sector (excluding self-catering accommodation), the catering sector, leisure venues, transport and tourist information centres.

What is the aim?

The main aim of the scheme is to raise quality standards in hospitality and tourism services, whilst incorporating more environmentally friendly practices. This is reflected in more stringent criteria, particularly in relation to sustainable development, sustainable transport, digital and energy efficiency, water consumption and waste management.
The criteria and certification processes are managed byAtout France, with assessments carried out by accredited bodies.
Service providers that have been awarded the label are highlighted on the tourist office’s website and the region’s website.

What is the procedure to follow?

take part in an online preparatory workshop (9.30 am–5.00 pm) organised by the Occitanie region
Depending on the score achieved at the end of the workshop:
– 85% or more in the ‘Reception’ section and more than 60% in the ‘Eco-Responsibility’ section: you can apply for an external audit
– < 85% and < 60%: free follow-up support is offered by a specialist consultancy
Complete the online form and pay the application and membership fees (€75 and €125)
Be ready for the mystery audit! (within two months, excluding any closure periods). Following the mystery visit, a detailed report will be sent to you, validating your brand and/or label if the criteria are met.
