When is the best time to visit?

All year round! In summer, we’ll tend to go in the mornings or evenings to make the most of the cooler temperatures on the hottest days.

Is this activity suitable for children?

Absolutely. Whether by bike, on foot or on rollerblades, there’s something for every child. The more adventurous can veer off the Greenway to try out some short trails suitable for mountain bikes.

What's not to be missed?

There are several points of interest along the way – perfect excuses for a break! As soon as you leave Lourdes, the Voie Verte runs alongside the Gave de Pau on the right bank, offering lovely views of the river. In Lugagnan, L’Instant Vert is the perfect spot for a gourmet break. Further on, in Boô Silhen, a pond situated on the former bed of the Gave is accessible less than 300 metres from the route. As you continue towards Argelès Gazost, you’ll cross the Gave de Pau via a metal bridge, with access to the riverbanks for a well-deserved break. All along the route, there are access points to various villages – do feel free to visit these places to discover their distinctive and little-known heritage.

Since 2000, the Gaves Greenway has replaced the old railway line that led to Pierrefitte-Nestalas. Awarded the ‘Tourisme&Handicap’ label in 2005, it allows everyone to explore the Gave de Pau valley against the backdrop of the Pyrenees. Add to that the gentle murmur of the Gave de Pau and you have all the ingredients for a wonderful experience.

The Gaves Greenway is a place where different users come together. Roller-skaters and cyclists will find a surface perfectly suited to their activities. Families with young children can go for a walk or enjoy a safe and pleasant cycle ride.
The Gaves Greenway also allows competitive cyclists and cycle tourists to make a leisurely journey from Lourdes to the legendary climbs of the Pyrenees.

Each season reveals a new side to the Gaves Greenway. In spring, the lush green banks are perfect for a stroll. In summer, the shaded areas and the proximity of the river offer a pleasant sense of coolness, with the option for walkers or mountain bikers to extend their adventure as far as the Cauterets valley. Autumn enhances the landscapes with its flamboyant colours, whilst winter charms with its tranquillity and unobstructed views of the Pyrenees bathed in the season’s characteristic light. A walk to be enjoyed time and time again, whatever the time of year.
