Running round the

Lake Lourdes

Running around Lake Lourdes

Fancy lacing up your trainers for a quick run? Head to Lake Lourdes for a firm favourite amongst the locals. The run around Lake Lourdes is a well-known weekend fixture for running enthusiasts.

An accessible route to enjoy at your own pace

Approximately 6 km long, this accessible route is suitable for running all year round. The shores of Lake Lourdes offer the ideal setting for running at your own pace, with the peaks of the Pyrenees as a backdrop. Here, physical exertion blends with the pleasure of the great outdoors: every run is an opportunity to get some fresh air, regain your balance and enjoy nature to the full. The more athletic can extend their route by joining the Chemin Henri IV or other hiking trails.

Let yourself to inspire you!

Once you have parked your car in the first car park, head towards the old Lourdes golf course. The tarmac road soon gives way to a gravel track that runs alongside the driving range before winding its way through the trees. In the shade of the pine forest, the route becomes more secluded and a few clearings in the vegetation reveal superb views of Lake Lourdes. Halfway along the route, you’ll cross the peat bog, a remarkable natural area designated as a Natura 2000 site, where nature thrives in complete tranquillity.

The track then joins a small tarmac road. After a short climb, take the path on your right to return to your starting point. Before you, the first peaks of the Pyrenees – the Pic du Jer and the Béout – form a panorama that naturally invites you to slow down. Make the most of the jetty to catch your breath, stretch your legs and enjoy a few moments by the lake. And if your legs still feel light… there’s nothing to stop you setting off on another loop.

Did you know?

Lake Lourdes is one of the few glacial lakes in the French Pyrenean foothills. Formed several thousand years ago as the glaciers retreated, it is now home to a remarkable array of plant and animal life. The peat bog you’ll pass during your run is a Natura 2000 site and is home to a particularly rich variety of flora and fauna. Running around the lake also takes you through a preserved natural area where each season reveals a new atmosphere.
