Couv, Chemin Bernadette 2025
Under the leadership of Father Peyramale, the sanctuary and a new parish church were built. Plans had been made to extend the old medieval Church of Saint-Pierre, but as it had been weakened by a fire in 1896, it was eventually demolished. Construction of the new Sacré-Cœur church, which began in 1875, was completed in 1936, having been delayed by financial difficulties. Several historical artefacts have been preserved in this church: the baptismal font used for Bernadette’s baptism, a statue and Father Peyramale’s confessional. In a rarity for France, the parish priest is buried in the crypt of his own church.
