Lacadé Mill

The Lacadé mill was first rented in 1865, then purchased in 1867 by Bishop Laurence of Tarbes, in order to prevent the Bernadette family from falling into poverty. Known as the ‘Maison Paternelle’, it became the home of François Soubirous, Bernadette’s father, who lived there for six years until his death in 1871. Louise, Bernadette’s mother, stayed for just one year before her death in 1866. Like the Boly mill, this building was situated beside the Lapacca, a stream that is now channelled beneath the Boulevard de la Grotte. Access to this stream still remains, hidden behind the small door on your left.
