Until the French Revolution, this abbey was part of a very influential benedictine monastery. Today, it is the local parish church.
It dates from the XII century and was completed during the gothic period by raising up the walls and bell tower.
The abbey has been classed as an historical monument since 1840 and is characterised by a very rich collection of movable heritage: Saint Savin's sarcophagus, a painting from the XV century telling the story of his life, a ciborium and Christ made out of wood dating from XIV century, and a Renaissance organ dating from 1557.
