By the early 19th century, the old medieval cemetery around Saint Peter's Church (today Place Peyramale) had become too small. In 1800, the town opened the Arberet cemetery, now known as the Cemetery of Equality.
The story of Lourdes lies here, between the castle and the summit of Le Béout: eye-witnesses to the Apparitions, the Soubirous family (except, of course, Bernadette, who is in Nevers), Bernadette's novice mistress and numerous Hospitaliers.

The First World War memorial is also remarkable. It is a rare work, since its architect, the sculptor, Jean-Marie Mengue, went as far as to depict a soldier lying dead, like a recumbent statue. Lastly, a few great families chose to build their sepulchre in Lourdes at the end of the 19th century, such as the De Béarn family.
